Scratch Resistant: Most people choose plastic lenses because they're lighter than glass and less likely to break. However, plastic scratches more easily than glass. So to prolong the life of your lenses, we recommend a scratch-resistant coating. Anti-Reflection: Removing reflections from the surface of the lens has several advantages. First, your vision will be better. Equally important, people can see your eyes more clearly as there are no distracting reflections to get in the way of direct eye contact. An anti-reflection coating also helps to reduce headlight glare when driving at night, so your eyes will feel less strained. This anti-reflective treatment can be combined with a scratch-resistant coating for optimum lens performance and durability. Tints & UV Filters: Excessive exposure to the sun's ultra violet rays can be harmful to your eyes and may cause long term damage. If you are at risk then a UV filter coating for your lenses is advisable. A wide choice of tints is also available to reduce the amount of light reaching your eyes and to make your vision more comfortable. THINNER LIGHTWEIGHT LENSES New Hi-Index materials mean that your lenses can be made thinner, lighter and better looking. This is especially good news if you have a high power prescription. Say goodbye to thick unsightly lenses. VARIFOCALS: BIFOCALS WITHOUT LINES If you require both near and distance vision correction, then you are probably presbyopic - a natural condition which many people experience in their mid-forties onwards. One solution is to have different pairs of spectacles for reading and distance vision. However this can be inconvenient. Another option is bifocals, but they have a sudden change in focus and an obvious line across the lens. Varifocal lenses are an increasingly popular alternative. Because they have a gradual change in their optical power, there is no jump between your near and distance vision. As a result, varifocals give you better middle distance focus as well as looking more attractive without the dividing line of bifocals. Barraclough and Stiles are approved centres of excellence for Rodenstock Progressiv Varifocals but being independent we are free to advise the most suitable design of varifocal from any manufacturer.
